GARMENT CARE TIPS

At D. Schafer, we prioritize your satisfaction above all else. To ensure your garments remain in pristine condition, we are pleased to share some essential care tips with you.

Professional Dry Cleaning

  • We recommend professionally dry cleaning all D. Schafer garments unless otherwise noted on the garment care label.

  • Have your garments dry cleaned before storing them for an extended period to preserve their quality.

  • Ensure your dry cleaner measures your garments after cleaning to maintain their proper fit.

Avoiding Damage

  • Avoid applying perfume, deodorant, or other scented products directly to your garments, as fragrances can penetrate the fabric and attract insects, potentially damaging your clothing.

  • In case of spills, immediately dab the affected area with a white cloth to absorb moisture. Avoid rubbing the fabric. Repeat until the majority of the liquid is absorbed. If necessary, use a small amount of clear soap and water with a cloth to clean the spill as much as possible. Be sure to remove all traces of soap completely to avoid further damage. Take the item to a dry cleaner as soon as possible for thorough cleaning, as stains like red wine or coffee may set in if not treated quickly.

Special Care for Light Colors

  • For light-colored garments, professional dry cleaning is strongly recommended to prevent discoloration.

  • Request your dry cleaner to use clean solvents when cleaning white or light-colored items to prevent yellowing or discoloration from dirty cleaning solutions.

Protection from Light

  • Prolonged exposure to sunlight or fluorescent lighting can cause fading and deterioration. Store garments in a cool, dark place, away from direct light sources.

Handling Embellishments

  • Cover buttons with aluminum foil before dry cleaning to prevent damage.

  • Embellishments, such as crystals or metal pieces, are applied using a heat-activated process. Inform your dry cleaner to use delicate methods when cleaning garments with embellishments to avoid heat damage.

Storage Tips

  • For long-term storage, it's preferable to fold garments, especially knits, to avoid stretching or misshaping.

  • Always button or zip jackets and dresses before storing to help maintain their structure.

  • If hanging garments, use padded or shaped hangers to support the shoulders and maintain the garment's original shape.

  • For pants, fold them along the crease and hang them over a hanger; skirts can be hung using clips or folded flat.

TIPS WHEN YOU TRAVEL

Packing Your Garments

  • Fold your garments in half or thirds and place them in a protective garment bag to minimize wrinkles.

  • When packing items with embellishments, place tissue paper between them to prevent damage during transit.

  • Pack your garments securely to avoid shifting or wrinkling during travel.

Upon Arrival

  • As soon as you arrive at your destination, unpack and hang your garments to avoid wrinkles setting in.

  • If your garments develop wrinkles, hang them in a steamy bathroom while taking a hot shower, as the steam will help release the creases.

  • For more stubborn wrinkles, place a 100% cotton or linen cloth over the wrinkled area and gently press with a steam iron or blow-dry the area with a hairdryer on low heat. Be sure to travel with a cotton or linen cloth for this purpose.

These tips will help you care for your D. Schafer garments and ensure their longevity, whether at home or on the go.
